McGeechan to give keynote
address at Hertfordshire Coach Education Week
Sir Ian McGeechan and Brendan
Venter will be giving lectures during the Hertfordshire Coach Education Week
and Conference, which is running at Hatfield's Hertfordshire Sports Village
from February 13-21.
There are over 3000 places available to coaches at 71 workshops in 21
different sports including rugby union and there have been registrations
already from as far afield as Latvia and Switzerland.
McGeechan was knighted in the New Year's Honours list to recognise a
distinguished career in rugby including playing for and coaching the British
& Irish Lions, most recently on last summer's tour to South Africa. He
will make a keynote address for which the fee to attend is just £10 on the
morning of Sunday February 21.
Venter from South Africa has been player-coach of London Irish and is
currently director of rugby at high-flying Guinness Premiership club
Saracens. He will be speaking on "Core Values for Rugby" on the
evening of Monday February 15.
The event which is in its second year has been put together by the Herts
Sports Partnership with whom the Rugby Football Union as the game's national
governing body has been working closely in the county through coach
development officer Tony Robinson and Herts RDO Peter Engledow.
The RFU will be providing a wide range of rugby-related workshops during the
week with a core of award and non-award courses and CPD modules on many
aspects from defence in phase play to Tag rugby.
