a) Eligibility
Players must be aged 13 on the 1st September 2008.
Players must be attending a school or playing club rugby in Hertfordshire. (This is different from the RFU School of Rugby where you must also reside in Hertfordshire)
b) Nomination Process
School Rugby Masters/ Club Coaches are asked to nominate players they believe have the necessary skills and physical attributes to seriously challenge for a position in the final squad.
There is no restriction on the number of nominations you may wish to make but please be realistic. We ask that you include your best Front Row Forward, 2nd Row/Back Row Forward, Half Back, Centre, Winger & Full Back.
Nominations to be emailed to davidtoon@btinternet.com by the 31st October 2008. (Nominations will not be accepted after this date)
Nominations must include Players Name, Preferred Playing Position, The district they wish to attend and their valid email address for correspondence, which will be sent prior to the training sessions.
Players currently selected for the Saracens EPDG and/or the Herts School of Rugby will be invited directly and required to attend these sessions if they wish to be considered for selection into the final squad.
Nominations will NOT be accepted from parents. They MUST come from the Club Coach or School Rugby Master.
Any player who attends without having been nominated by their school or club will not be allowed to participate in the trials process.
c) Selection Process
Each District will be managed/led by a member/s of the U14 Herts County Coaching Team. They will be assisted by ‘invited’ club/school coaches in the running of these sessions. The sessions will follow the current RFU Player Development Curriculum. The lead coach/es will have overall decision making with regard to team selection for the grand final.
Each ‘District’ will be running two (2) Player Development Sessions for players who meet the eligibility requirements.
Players identified at these sessions as having the necessary skills and physical attributes to become a ‘potential’ County rugby player will be selected to represent their respective district in the Grand Final.
At the Grand Final the Herts County U14 Coaching team will assess the players. Players identified by the coaching team will then be invited to join the Herts County U14 squad.
d) Districts
The following clubs are attributed to the following districts:
NORTH – Letchworth, Datchworth, Hitchin, Stevenage & Royston plus schools in the area.
EAST – Bishop Stortford, Hertford, Cheshunt & Welwyn plus schools in the area.
WEST – Fullerians, Watford, Hemel Hempstead & Tabard plus schools in the area.
CENTRAL – Old Albanians, Old Verulamians, Harpenden, Barnet & Tring plus schools in the area.
