OA Saint in England Women’s Under 20s squad
The England Women’s Under 20s squad, who will take on Wales and travel to Canada for a tour this season, has today (Thursday) been announced.
Sarah McKenna, a centre for Old Albanians Saints, is in selected in the squad of 26, which includes 15 players who ran out for the England Under 19s last season and contested games against the USA and Canada
England Under 20s Head Coach Giselle Mather, who will be assisted by Bedford coach Martin Hynes, said: “This is a very exciting squad. We have the experience of 15 players who represented the Under 19s last season and 11 new players who have proved themselves worthy of selection. The latter is a testament to the good work the RFUW is doing at Under 14s and Under 17s age group rugby.
“This season the Under 20s will take on Wales and travel to Canada for an exciting tour. The experience we have in the squad will indeed be useful but we are fully expecting all our games to be very tough.
“We will be hoping to build on the success of the Under 19s last season when they defeated the USA and Canada. However, the tour to Canada will take the players to a new level as many of the squad have never toured abroad before and they will be out of their comfort zones. Rugby is all about challenges though and I am sure the players will do themselves and English Women’s rugby proud. I am very much looking forward to working with a great bunch of players who have such a tremendous amount of potential.”
England Under 20s will play Wales in Wales on February 3rd, 2008 (venue tbc) and will then travel to Canada for a two week tour.
